I am a deserted country road

built for wooden spokes

metal hooves

every memory the dust evokes

scattered my way, held at bay.

But as this dawn breaks, the sun jokes

"Who is to be the star of the day?"

And it ascends, over my gaze

creating a heat

haze

Celebrating my vision

igniting the land

in an endless auburn fire

The roadside wire

glistens

I used to be a deserted country road

but now I finally see

who is there for me
