Packing Tales

I zip open an empty, foreign land
and begin to fill it
with a brimmed hat, I pack
all the sunny days at Amalfi
with books, I pack
long lonely hours on Eurostar trains
with a watch, I pack
the tardy sunrise at Hawaii
with boots, I pack
the fresh smell of Appalachian dirt
with maps, I pack
all the roads I haven't walked
and with a camera,
a palette of people in between.
