My lips part

as reluctantly they were

a journey to your heart

I smile nervously

at the warmth you conjure

But if love was to be easy

I wouldn't be singing

Yet love is queasy-and uneasy

And already I can feel it singeing

It burns, it scorches, it kills

leaving merely a carcass

that is left alone in the hills

for the vultures to harass

I am the victim

But you ain't no culprit

No, you’re not

You’re my muse

be in my arms

I promise, it won't take long

just until your eyes

fall on me
